By the next afternoon the entire unit of the Army Beasts knew of the new addition to their ranks as tiny as it may be. Casey looked around the breakfast table to each man he called his family. While it was lunch time, the hotel still served a breakfast buffet for guests who were late risers. Even Zander seemed happy, which was a stretch for him since no one could actually tell what the man was thinking from one point to the next. But the talk about babies seemed to make him uncomfortable and green around the gills. Casey decided this would be a nice new way to ease his friend into the joys of being an uncle.

After breakfast, they all went off to different tasks. Nia and Promyse went for a spa day, and the single men opted for girl watching around the pool, while he and Zane went looking for a nice suit for him to wear. It was late afternoon when they walked back into the hotel, and the concierge at the front desk hailed them.

“Mr. Johnson, there is a guest waiting for you in the lounge,” the young man said.

“Who is it?” Casey asked.

“Are you expecting someone else for the wedding?’ Zane questioned.

“She didn’t leave a name, an older lady, and she said you’ll know who she is,” the concierge said.

“Jesus, she wouldn’t dare, would she?” Casey murmured.

“Who?” Zane asked.

“My mother,” Casey replied and strode toward the lounge doors.

She was sitting there in plain sight wearing a dusty rose channel business suit. She waved him over with a wide smile and called the waiter with the other hand.

“Bring my son a whisky neat,” she said to the waiter. “I’m sure it’s still how he likes it.”

“It is,” Casey acknowledged. “I won’t be staying to drink it. I won’t ever ask how you found me, but why are you here, Katherine?”

“You never sent me an initiation to your nuptials,” she said with a slick smile. “I thought I’d bring you some new incentive to take your rightful place.”

“And that would be?” Casey said calmly.

“Brenda, your true mate, and a real woman with our linage in her blood,” Katherine said.

“She is just as sadistic as you are.” Casey laughed. “You’re amusing, I’ll give you that.”

“I hope this makes you laugh,” his mother said nastily, and the evil intent was in her eyes. “Leave here with me now and take your place in the clan, and your Nia won’t be killed.”

“My Nia is safe with her friends, and you can’t do one damn thing,” Casey replied. His heart thumped in his chest because he knew his mother had something up her sleeve. He had to play it cool and let her show her hand so he could counter act quickly.

“At the spa with that other girl?” Katherine said sweetly. “Who had a glass of Guava juice right before her mud bath? She is sleeping right through her session, and there was a call placed from your room telling Nia to come up there for your surprise.
